Aurora Borealis
If you haven’t figured it out (though I’m sure you have), I changed the layout. I didn’t like the other one due to the lack of color to it. I think I do too many things in black, white, and grey. (yeah, yeah, yeah, there’s black in this one too :P)
The above title picture is a space shot taken by nasa of the Aurora Borealis (or the northen lights).
The mythology and superstitions surrounding the Aurora are interesting. It varies between communities. The stories I am most familiar with is if you whistle the Aurora will dance closer to you. The other is children are at risk and should be hidden lest they be snatched from their parents’ arms. I know of these two due to the amount of Alaskan Native friends I have.
Other myths I learned about through research. One is that the Aurora is where the elders are dancing in the afterlife and are welcoming newly departed souls. Another is that evil is about to be sprung on the watching tribe.
Science says that the Norther Lights are caused by a combination of chemical reactions with the magnetic field; charging ions that reflect sunlight (or something like that). Some of you know I hate chemistry with a passion, so I won’t try to figure out how to explain it.

Why did I choose to do this for a layout? The Aurora holds some fond memories of being with friends who got super duper excited about running outside, in the cold, to look at the sky through chattering teeth, casual talking, and fidgeting. :)
