Burned Out

Posted in: Everyday

And friday’s not even over yet.

I’m taking a break from doing labwork. We just got back from going out to lunch practically. I really want a nap.

I have so much to learn. It’s a little overwhelming, but I’m definitely up to the challange. When haven’t I bitten more off than I could chew and survived just fine?

I really want my internet at home. 5 days. Just 5 more days. I’m itching to work on designs. And I’ve got alot more things pulled together for Shadowed Beauty.

Monday and Tuesday found me out at a mine site. An evaporation pond is going in to trap water coming from a Tailing’s Dam. I promise, I will try to define terms more when I have more time :P.

I learned how to run two different tests. One’s pretty simple, the other is a pain in the ass. The first checks for material compaction, the other checks for permeability. Wednesday and Thursday found me sitting through training. I had to take a safety course through MSHA (google it :D) so that I can go onto mine sites by myself. It’s alot to digest. Most of it’s commonsense.

Don’t walk by a moving machinery. You could get smashed. MSHA, if you find their website, has some pretty wicked pictures of dumb asses. Yes. They clearly are dumb asses if they walk near a machine that weighs a good 24,000 tons.

The end of thursday and now today has found me covered in dirt and smiling like a chimpanzee. I love lab work. Seriously. It’s messy, I get to play in the mud, and I don’t have to look pretty doing it. Though, I will figure out how S keeps her fingernails so clean! I will, I will!!

Well, I was just taking a brief break. Not use to being on my feet for several hours at a time. I’m skipping out of here to go and complete more addenburg (I’m pretty sure I spelt that wrong) tests!

And to tease T for having his right arm bigger than his left (if you’re familiar with a proctor tests, you’ll know what I’m talking about)!

There’s even a kids page that gives a history of children working on the mines. Pretty interesting stuff there. Looks like they have some sort of monthly contests too for slogans and such. But I did not see any pics. Must not have looked hard enough.

Sounda like an awesome job, but a tough job. Keep at it. =)

Thao - huh… I’ll have to glance over there and then get back to you. The instructor said they were all up on the website, everything he was showing us.

Karnov - way tough. My feet are killing me.
