Slow
Today has been really slow. And so far, today has also been good.
Last week, I almost had an outing with KE who is the “lab manager.” He was micro managing me when I am not under his management. We had a brief talk and things have improved since then.
Last week, though, reminded me that I need to not be stubborn and ignore or just do something. I have to speak up. I am not good about doing that. The fact that I’m a new employee makes me feel a bit disadvantaged. Especially if something ever came down to a he said she said match.
However, and I find this amusing, I am not the only one that finds KE hard to work with. I know of at least three people planning to quit. And all of them have voiced harsh opinions of him.
So far, I’ve been good about not bitching openly about this. I’ve been the observer/listener type. The safe role that I’ve always followed when in a new environment.
This weekend was a blast. I went to this thing that G was having: a premiere jewelry party. Basically, think of it like a Tupperware get together, only with jewelry. It was pretty cool. Except, I could make over half of the things there. But I did learn how people do some of those cool scarf things. I don’t know if it’s really handy knowledge, seeing as it’s impracticle for me to where a dressy scarf, but, eh… when did a bit of trivial knowledge ever hurt someone?
Sunday found me at a “mini” company picnic. I went tubing for the very first time. I hurt today, but it was ssooo much fun. I would do it again. It was also nice to be with work people and not have to discuss work.
One of the positive things I would say about working in this office is that I’m with a group that’s around my own age. I’m not the youngest, but I’m not the oldest either. We have alot of different things in common. Me and S have been bonding alot too. It’s nice to have another female friend.
This morning, though, I nearly died. This company not only works hard, they play hard. To know that’s true, you would have to go back to the lab fridge and open it. You would think we were a bunch of lushes.
I don’t know how much beer is in there, but if it was just me, it would last a lifetime.
*shakes head*
Anyways, I probably should go find something to do… though, I think I’m suppose to be manning the front and the phones. Only me an S are here currently. Fun fun! Time to go grab one of those beers.
Drinking on the job? It must be a very laid back envirnoment. It’s good to hear that KE aside you like working there.
August 15th, 2006 at 5:46 amBeer at work? The only time I worked in a place like that was at a law firm. And that was the attorney’s fridge. Good job keeping the listening mode one and not joining in on the complaining. That can get you in trouble later on.
August 16th, 2006 at 9:02 amStar - Techinically, we can’t pop one open until after 4. But when the cats away, the mice will play. I’ve only had one after I’ve finished for the day. It’s hard to function otherwise. I think I forgot to mention, there’s hard liqueor in one of the cabinets by the fridge.
Thao - I would of never gotten away with something like that had I still been working for the government. It’s surprising how different places have different atmospheres. And you’re absolutely right, you can get in trouble later on if you don’t pay attention to what you’re saying.
