The HOA pains start again…
They are like cramps, they make me feel discomfort and irritation. So what’s going on now?
I was not able to attend the meeting last year because it was moved after I had made travel arrangements to go to my company’s christmas party. I just received the minutes about a day ago.
They have decided to charge HOA members a special assessment of $5000.
Is there a stunned audience out there? I think I actually stopped breathing for a few seconds. Had I been present at that meeting, I would have thrown a fit.
I spoke to good old mister P. We actually didn’t yell at each other on the phone, thankfully, but now I have to write a letter concerning this and present my case so to speak. I’ve decided to take it one step forward, especially after finding out that others that couldn’t attend the meeting due to it being moved as well are disgruntled. My voice alone may not be persuasive enough, but my voice matched with others would be.
One thing that I plan to make clear is that such a hefty special assessment should have been sent to members absent for a vote. Not decided between, what appears to be, 5 people.
Have no idea what you are on about but it sounds to me like a clever way to try and get a lot of cash, through absence of members. But you mustn’t forget it’s not just any old assessment you’d be paying $5000 for it’s a “special” assessment…. :???:
January 10th, 2008 at 1:41 amAye, sorry about that. an HOA is a Homeowners Association. Basically if you are in a gated community or a common interest community, their is something to take care of common needs.
In example, I pay an association due because I’m a member (forced member by the way), which takes care of water, garbage, and sewer. Improvements to the community also can come from this money. It also pays who ever is on the board for management.
January 11th, 2008 at 5:27 pmA special assessment is something that can be done to pay for extra expenses that have no other way for being paid. Last year’s special assessment was designed to bring the HOA out of a financial hole (which I was unaware of when I bought the place).
It gets alot more complicated… but that’ll make this comment way too long.
Wow. Five grand. How many members does HOA have?
January 12th, 2008 at 10:03 amLike 10 people… and the five that made the decision are on the “board”. It’s irritating. One guy has 27 units and therefore a monopoly on us little guys. The neighbor I’m working with has law connections and we’re doing some digging as a result.
In Nevada’s NAC from what I can tell, any extra charges have to be REASONABLE. I know I can prove that its unreasonable.
January 12th, 2008 at 7:10 pmHoly crap. I have never heard of such a thing. And having lived in 3 newly built communities in my lifetime, I have to deal with HOA. I griped about the fact that my dues have been raised $100 over last year and for this I get letters every 2 weeks telling me to get my trash off my driveway.
January 15th, 2008 at 11:19 pmSorry, I meant trashcan off the driveway.
January 15th, 2008 at 11:20 pmI would have never caught that had you not posted twice
What’s pathetic about ours is that maintenance doesn’t even happen like its suppose too. I haven’t heard back about my first letter. And know Mr. P got it because I had it certified/return receipt. If I had known how much of a headache this would be, I wouldn’t of bought the place… I think when Joe gets there we may start looking for another place.
