Wednesday Night

We left for Baja, Mexico! 3 people, 2 dogs, and a lot of luggage crammed into a toyota corolla and made our way south. We made a pit stop in Vegas to drop the dogs off and crash for a few hours. (total time traveled: 7 hours)

Thursday

Thursday morning we made it to San Diego just in time to pick up one more in our group. We stopped for a late lunch in Tijauna and then made our way south about 25 km passed Ensuenada. We spent the night after making it over a rather washboard road on a beach near the Point of Saint Tomas (I think… or its near there… no map with me). Thankfully, between D’s 3 chapters of spanish and my spotty memory of four years of high school french, we somehow figured out who the “campground host” was and paid him the 50 pesos for the night.

Other highlights for that day? Passing through a military checkpoint and mexican driving (I was so glad I was in the back seat). To top the day off, the out houses at the first place were so disgusting. I’ve seen bad out houses, but this? Took the cake. Once it was dark, the bushes were best friends.

Friday

We headed out in the morning, making our way back to Ensenada and got an early lunch. We also got a map for the vineyards around Tecate. So, the afternoon was spent wine sampling. There was this really excellant one at the second place we stopped at. It had a dark chocolate after taste… it was sooo good.

By early evening we were in the car again headed to La Bufadora. We camped the night there on top of cliffs. It was pretty and the bathrooms… hell of a lot better. In La Bufadora we explored the market place and got dinner at a taco stand. That evening we drank cheap beer and shot off fireworks with drunk mexicans. Mexicans and fireworks are crazy. The one thing we missed was checking out a blow hole. We thought it was just before La Bufadora… turns out it was at the end of the market, but was closed by the time we got there.

Saturday and Sunday

Hotel Reservations. A shower. Bliss.

We stayed the rest of the weekend in La Fonda in this really neat little hotel. We got there in the late afternoon, changed into swim gear and went looking for a surf shop. We found the surf shop, but it was closed. So in looking for other rental places, we ran into this elderly gentleman who insisted on buying us drinks and sharing stories. He was interesting.

By the time we gave up on looking for other surf shops, we made it back to the first one to find it open and we tried to hit the waves.

I suck at surfing.

We checked the night life out… which wasn’t a whole lot that evening and mostly repeated this on sunday. Instead of just the surf boards, though, we got boogey boards too. There were also dolphins just outside the wave breaks (thought they were sharks at first). We also went into Rosarita that evening and checked out Papas and Beer, which was… interesting. We ended up running into a large group of irish tourists from Dublin. It was a good time… my favorite part was when one of them ran into me, kissed both my hands, and said sorry in that accent before stumbling away pretty drunk. Definitely couldn’t fault them for being drunk due to the politeness.

Monday

We dragged ourselves out of bed and made our way home… granted we didn’t get back to elko until midnight. I found out Joe was already here; he’d gotten in saturday night. Other than that I’m healing from some nasty bruises and an equally nasty sun burn. And also trying to help the boy settle in. His stuff is everywhere.

…him too much credit. What happened that day though, felt like fishing. I was sitting at my desk, trying to finish a report for a project I spent no actual construction time on (except for a pre-bid meeting) and he just starts acting like a dick. Point blank. A dick.
We had to have our timesheets in early this week due to the holidays coming up. And he asked me if I had done mine yet.

Me: *distracted answer because I’m trying to finish a Record of Construction (ROC) report* No, I haven’t done mine yet… I still got an hour and its not going to take me that long to finish it.

Nancy Boy: Well you should do it now.

Me: I’ll do it when I’m ready to do it.

Nancy Boy: Its due at 3, you have to do it now. *acting like he’s my superior*

Me: I KNOW its due at 3. DO NOT lecture me. *getting irritated because I’m in the middle of trying to concentrate on writing the ROC report*

*long quiet pause*

Nancy Boy: On a scale of 1 to 10, how much do you hate me?

Me: *long sigh* Which is highest and which is lowest?

Nancy Boy: *half mumbled answer*

The answer I gave him was that hate is a strong word. I don’t hate him. I find him obnoxious and irritating. But I don’t hate him. He hasn’t pulled anything on me that would cause me to hate him… yet. But I do not like to be bossed around when I have other priorities and I’m trying to concentrate on that priority, especially when its on something I’m not even sure if I’m doing right. That’s a sure sign that you’ll get a short answer from me. Most people at the office have figured out that you leave Kristina alone when she’s in the zone or not paying attention to things around her.

I really wish they would hurry up and order the divider for the other side of Junior Engineer area… where I WANTED my office originally. Then maybe I wouldn’t feel I have to be defensive with him all the time or be on guard.

Anyways… good things this week? Joe sent me purple lilacs :) That made my week. He’s also a free man come Monday at 1500 hours! He’ll be in Elko relatively soon… it all depends on how long he decides to visit his family. I told him to take his time… especially with me going to Baja at the end of next week.

That’s about it… I’m working this weekend, sitting on my butt watching removal of capping stone and happen to get the wireless card and got lucky in finding an okay spot with a constant bar or two. Signal is shady. The site might disappear sometime this weekend while I try to figure out why I have a redirect problem. Just an FYI.
